Joseph S. Mrotek, age 87, a Manitowoc resident, died late Wednesday night, November 22, 2017 at Harbor View Assisted Living Facility, Manitowoc.

He was born on February 8, 1930, in Two Rivers, son of the late Charles and Cecelia (VanderBusch) Mrotek. Joe attended Manitowoc Lincoln High School, graduating with the class of 1948. On September 23, 1950 he married Jeanette Pozorski at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Joe was primarily employed as a steep man at Wisconsin Kurth Malting in Manitowoc until his retirement in 1992. Joe was an avid gardener and loved to do woodworking. He did extensive remodeling of his own home and whoever else needed help with their own projects. He never threw away his left over materials, always saving them for a future use. He also enjoyed fishing and camping with his family. He took his grandchildren along for a number of years, introducing them to an activity most of them still enjoy themselves. He was very involved with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed spending a lot of time with them.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years: Jeanette, Manitowoc; children: Rick Mrotek, Manitowoc, Lynn (Pete) Rutherford, Francis Creek, Sue Mrotek, Menasha, Daughter-in-law: Lori Mrotek, Manitowoc, grandchildren: Greg (Mickey) Shea of Manitowoc, Melissa (Brian) Schild of Shorewood, Stacy (Blair) Shea-VanHemelryk of Appleton, Tanya Mrotek of Manitowoc, Michael (Misty) Mrotek of Howard, Carissa (Matt - Boomer) Grimm of Manitowoc, Daniel Mrotek of Madison, Sam (Kayla Burton) LaViolette of Two Rivers; great-grandchildren: Loic (Amberly), Kyra, Alexandra, David, Randal, Johnathan, Charlie, Emmie, Brinn, Jacob, Oliver, and Brison; one sister: Colleen Schneider, Manitowoc; one sister-in-law: Eileen Pozorski, Chetek, one niece: Connie Swant, Chetek; three nephews: Brad Schneider, Greg (Paula) Schneider, all of Manitowoc, Jeff (Jolene) Schneider, Neenah. Many other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Cecelia Mrotek; an infant daughter: Linda; one son: Randy; two grandchildren: Michelle and Joey; and two brothers-in-law: John Pozorski and Robert Schneider.

A life celebration social will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 N Water Street, Manitowoc, located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. There will be a eulogy at 4:30 PM. A light luncheon will be served. Cremation has occurred at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. Please do not send flowers.
