Karen Elizabeth Quick, long time resident of Manitowoc, passed away on December 22, 2016, hand in hand with her best friend and husband of 47 years, Doug.
Karen was born February 18, 1945 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Gordon and Elizabeth (Wedertz) Lund. She graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1963. She went on to graduate from Bradford Junior College, Haverhill, Massachusetts and the University of Wisconsin Madison with a degree in Foreign Language. She married Douglas Quick in Chicago, Illinois on July 5, 1969.
She spent her life dedicated to her family, supporting her husband with his work and creating a happy home for the upbringing of their children. She didn't just wait at home to hear about her husband's work at Lakeside Foods but rather entertained and befriended customers and business associates throughout the years. She was truly a partner and instrumental in his career and the success of the family business. Her many friends and her family will remember her as a constantly cheerful and loving person, one who never had an unkind word for anyone. She was a great listener who put people at ease and made them know they were important to her.
Beyond her family and friends, Karen enjoyed traveling, reading, crosswork puzzles and other mind games, and fun times at a cottage on English Lake and condos in Door County, Wisconsin and Fountain Hills, Arizona.
The cancer later in her life was relentless but didn't ever overcome her quiet strength. She never complained or let her family get down about her illness. She lived her life for her family and through them. Her last wish was that they strengthen their family ties even more and carry on together in her memory. They will greatly miss her but will cherish every moment with her, and every memory shared together.
She is survived by her husband: Douglas Quick, Manitowoc; two sons and one daughter-in-law: Jeffrey and Mandy Quick, Appleton, WI; Todd Quick, Manitowoc; and three grandchildren: Alianna, Appleton, WI; Alethea and Ashton, Manitowoc. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law: Jeffrey and Judy Lund, Manitowoc; brother-in-law: Michael Mayberry, Richmond, VA; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, John and her sister, Mary Mayberry.
A private family memorial service will be held in the spring with burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc. Memorials may be made in her name to charities of the donor's choice. Online condolences to the family may be sent to www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com.
