Obituary

Kermit H. Sommers, age 97, a resident of River Wood Estates, Manitowoc, formerly of 1426 South 23rd Street, Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Thursday morning, January 31, 2013 at River Wood Estates where he had been residing the past 3 ½ years.

Kermit was born September 8, 1915 in the town of McMillan, Wood County. He was the son of the late Herman and Inabelle Straub Sommers. Kermit attended Marshfield High School and graduated with the class of 1934. He then entered the United States Army and served overseas during World War II. After his honorable discharge Kermit returned to Manitowoc and became employed with Aluminum Specialty for 34 years retiring in 1979. On October 19, 1941 he married Mabel Ullmann in Neilsville, WI. She preceded him in death on January 18, 2001. Kermit was a long time member of Grace Ev. Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and was active on several other church committees.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Carole and Paul Wilsmann, New Berlin, WI; two grandchildren: Timothy Paul Wilsmann and Kristin Sue Herriges; two special nieces: Rena Lippert and Andree Erickson both of Manitowoc, WI; along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Herman and Inabelle Sommers; wife: Mabel; three sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, 2426 North Rapids Road, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Thomas Pankow with entombment to take place at Knollwood Mausoleum. Relatives and friends may call at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00. Military rites will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Otto Oas Post #659 at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church immediately following the church services.
