Leroy A. Stahl, age 87, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life peacefully with family by his side on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at Dimensions Assisted Living.

Leroy was born on June 17, 1939 in Newton to the late Herb and Veronica (Schneider) Stahl. He graduated from Valders High School with the class of 1958. Leroy entered the United States Army with the Nation Guard, 32nd Division, serving from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1964. On October 12, 1963, Leroy married Jeanmarie D. Close at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, with Rev. James Stamborski officiating. He had worked at Foster Needle, Jagemann Plating, and retired from Mirro Rolling Mill in 2001. Leroy was an accordionist with Jerry Sleger and Silk Umbrella Boys, sang with the Sacred Heart Choir, and when the churches combined, he sang with the Gloria Dei and Grand Troubadour and Rejoice Choirs for 66 years. He was the librarian for all the choirs until 2019, and also was the librarian of the Manitowoc Marine Band for many years. Leroy and his wife joined St. Peter The Fisherman Catholic Church, where they members of the Laudate and Coming Home Choirs. He also played keyboard in assisted living homes with his wife, and also played keyboard and organ at home. Leroy loved tending to his flower beds and yard, which was picture perfect and perfectly mowed. He had fun playing cards and board games, reading and attending Ships Basketball games with his wife for over 45 years.

Survivors include Leroy’s wife and “babe” of nearly 63 years, Jean; his wonderful two children who he loved dearly and was very proud of, Kimm Schaut, Manitowoc; and Kevin Stahl, Green Bay; four sisters, Joyce (Ed) Schleis, Manitowoc; Barb (Joel) Graf, Kiel; Sandra (James) Fitzgerald, Newton; and Gladys Posewitz, New Holstein; two sisters-in-law, Carol and Donna Stahl; godchildren, Laura Sage, Shannon Stahl, and Brian Schleis; also many other loving family, friends, neighbors and the boys and coaches of the Ships basketball teams. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Veronica Stahl; infant sister, Audrey; two brothers, Gary and Joe Stahl; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Marie Close.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home with Rev. Dave Pleier officiating. Military honors will be accorded by accorded Drews Bleser American Legion Post 88 at the funeral home immediately following the funeral service. Entombment will take place at Knollwood Mausoleum. A luncheon for family and friends will then be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.
