Leroy Staudt, age 86, a resident of Manitowoc, died peacefully from complications of Parkinson's disease on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers.
Leroy was born on August 16, 1931 in Manitowoc to the late Raymond and Bertha (Swarts) Staudt Sr. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1949. In 1951, Leroy enlisted in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1954. He then served in the United States Air Force Reserve until 1961. On February 23, 1952, Leroy married Delores Brixius in Manitowoc. He was an owner and operator of George's Coin and Vending for many years.
For 32 years, Leroy was a WIAA official who refereed numerous basketball and volleyball games. He also provided color commentary on WOMT radio. Following his retirement from refereeing, he was an avid follower of the Manitowoc Ships basketball team and could be seen at most home games. He excelled at golfing in which he had numerous holes-in-one, was a five-time Elk's Club champion and also taught golf lessons at the YMCA. Leroy also enjoyed playing racquetball and tennis. He was a member of the Manitowoc Elk's and Eagle's Clubs, the Branch River Country Club, and a charter member of the YMCA.
Survivors include Leroy's wife of 66 years, Delores; two daughters, Sue (Mike) Dilley, and Kathy (Dean) Domenoski; two sons, Brad Staudt, and Bill (Cathy) Staudt; five grandsons, Jimmy and Tyler Domenoski, Kyle, Brock and Drew Staudt; two brothers, Ray Jr. (Marilyn) Staudt, and Gerald (Marilyn) Staudt; sister-in-law, Elaine Wigen; also other relatives and friends. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Staudt and Bertha Staudt; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Robert and Alice Staudt, Don and Doris Staudt, and Wayne Staudt; sister, Eleanor Clasen; brother-in-law, Howard Wigen; also aunts, uncles and many cousins.
Leroy was very proud of his grandsons, and loved spending time with them and attending their numerous sporting events. He was a wonderful grandpa and will be missed.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Fr. Dave Pleier will officiate with burial to take place at Evergreen Cemetery. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. The visitation will continue on Saturday at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. Following the funeral service, a luncheon for family and friends will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the funeral home.
