Obituary

Leroy E. Waack, age 86, a resident of Maritime Gardens in Manitowoc, and formerly of the town of Newton, entered eternal life on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.

Leroy was born on June 24, 1930 in Manitowoc to the late John and Hertha Hoefner Waack. He attended St. John's Ev. Lutheran School in Newtonburg. Leroy was a fifth generation farmer who owned and operated the family farm in the town of Newton. On April 9, 1980, Leroy married Theresa Holschbach in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on December 30, 2012. In lieu of hobbies, Leroy always enjoyed farming and driving tractor. Leroy was a Newton Town Board Supervisor for 18 years. He was a long-time member of the Newton Lions and the Newton Volunteer Fire Department. Leroy was a life-long member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church where he had served on various boards and committees.

Survivors include Leroy's four children: Kathy Hardrath, Karen (Dennis) Wernecke, Karol Waack, and Leroy J. (Barb) Waack, all of Manitowoc; eight grandchildren: Amanda (Jacob) Nass, Jeremy (Nikki) Wernecke, Brian Wernecke, Jamie (Norm) Hippert, Amy (David) Kmetz, Andy (Jenny) Waack, Jess Waack, and Amy (Marlon) Kendall; eight great grandchildren: Faith, Michaela, Isaac, Kailey, Taylor, Logan, Wyatt, Hunter, Eli, and Addison; five stepchildren: Sandy (Dave) Hardrath, Connie (Dale) Ansorge, Judy (Marty) Bey, Jeff (Cindy) Holschbach, and Cherie (Randy) DeRoche; also many step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; sister: LaVerne Luckow, Manitowoc; his "adopted" dog: Jack; also other relatives and friends. Leroy was preceded in death by his sister: Irmgard; son-in-law: John Hardrath; and step-son: Dale Holschbach.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2016 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, 7531 English Lake Road, Manitowoc. Rev. Victor Headrick will officiate with burial to follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church on Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., and again on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
