Obituary

Lindsay N. Van Ess, age 37, a Newton resident, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital.

She was born June 19, 1986 in Manitowoc, daughter of Ronald "Rocky" and Lisa (Mowrer) Rocklewitz. Lindsay attended Mishicot High School, graduating with the class of 2005. Following high school, she obtained a Bachelor's Degree from Silver Lake College. On September 19, 2020, Lindsay married Steven Van Ess at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Newton. She was employed as a business loan analyst at United One Credit Union, Manitowoc, where she truly loved her job and the people she worked with. They gave her the opportunity to do her job from home. She loved the challenge, logic, sense of accomplishment, and purpose her job gave her every day. Lindsay was also active as a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters. She also enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking, attending the Porterfield Country Music Festival, and taking trips to breweries and wineries, especially Cold Country Winery. Lindsay also loved to spend time in Silver Cliff, where her and Steve were building their dream cabin.

The song that can't stop on my radio right now is "the painter" by Cody Johnson. I lost my painter today. Lindsay was my everything her strength was unimaginable. She battled her cancer head on when one doctor told her "no" she found another one who would say yes and pushed on, when one drug didn't work she stayed positive and just switched drugs. All side effects, hair losses, limited breathing, she did what she could, more than she should, and overcame. Thank you for supporting Lindsay in our fight against cancer and for all the prayers in the past week and always. She'll now be able to paint on many more peoples lives from where she is. - Steve
