Lloyd V. Schaefer, age 84, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Maritime Gardens in Manitowoc.
Lloyd was born on July 29, 1932 in Manitowoc to the late Victor and Catherine Wergin Schaefer. On December 18, 1953, Lloyd married Jean C. Meyer in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on June 9, 2008. Lloyd served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, Lloyd was a truck driver for Schneider Transport for 33 years until he retired in 1992. Along with his wife Jean, he owned and operated the Tradewinds Tavern and then Jean and Lloyd's Bar until they retired from the tavern business in 1985. Lloyd was a member of V.F.W. Otto-Oas Post 659.
Survivors include Lloyd's four children: Keith (Chris) Schaefer, Cindy (Randy) Ayotte, Craig (Debi) Schaefer, and Lori Decker and special friend James Stai, all of Manitowoc; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers: Victor G. (Fran) Schaefer, Arizona; and Dean (Debbie) Schaefer, Manitowoc; two sisters: Joan Nelson, Manitowoc; and Nancy (Fran) Brocalli, Bend, OR; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents: Victor and Catherine Schaefer; wife: Jean; son: Thomas W. Schaefer; and brother: Gene Schaefer.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Rev. DuWayne Hanke will officiate with entombment to take place at Calvary Mausoleum at a later date. Following the funeral service, military rites will be accorded by V.F.W. Otto-Oas Post 659 at the funeral home. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Saturday from 6 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com
