Obituary

Lois J. Bergquist, age 71, a lifelong resident of Manitowoc, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at the Aurora Bay Care Medical Center in Green Bay, with her husband of 36 years, David J. Bergquist, at her side.  Lois died due to an injury suffered as a result of a fall at home on July 14, 2022.

Lois was born on May 30, 1951 in Manitowoc, the daughter of the late Virgil C. and Alice A. Vetter Cogswell.  She was baptized into Christ on June 24, 1951 and confirmed on May 23, 1965.  Lois attended schools in Manitowoc and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1969.  She furthered her education by attending classes at the University of Wisconsin Manitowoc Extension.  Lois was a faithful child of God, believing in his saving grace, and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who has paid for all of her sins and has now welcomed her into His loving arms at the gates of heaven.  Lois was a lifelong and active member of Grace Ev. Lutheran Church.  She worked for many years at the Associated Bank and later at First Reformed United Church of Christ and Rainbow House.  Lois enjoyed bowling in her younger years which is how she met her husband.  She was a lifelong die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and her favorite player was Ron Santo.  Lois made many friends throughout the years, working with customers at Associated Bank and with the church members at First Reformed UCC.  She was always very thoughtful, never forgetting a birthday, anniversary, or special occasion.

She is survived by her husband David J. Bergquist, brothers Michael J. Cogswell and Robert L. Cogswell; sister and brother-in-law, Janet L. and Michael Handl; nieces, Angela (Eric) Behnke, Jacquelyn (Timothy) Schrimpf, Amanda Cogswell, and Nicole Cogswell; nephews, Craig (Nichole Hart) Handl, Kyle (Sabrina) Handl, and Kristofer Cogswell; further survived by her mother-in-law, Gladys Bergquist, sister-in-law, Nancy (Michael) Mahnke, brother-in-law, Gary Bergquist, nephew, John Mahnke and niece, Kathryn Mahnke.  Her beloved dogs, Molly, Ronnie and Ali.  Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Alice Cogswell, paternal grandparents, Rual and Alvina Cogswell, maternal grandparents, Edwin and Maria Vetter, father-in-law, John Bergquist, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins along with her precious dogs, Skipper, Chipper, Willie, Alex, Winston, Charlie, Wrigley, and Jake.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, 2426 North Rapids Road, Manitowoc.  Officiating will be Pastor Thomas Pankow.  Visitation will be on Saturday at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.  A luncheon will be held at the church following the memorial services.  Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel and Lois' cremated remains will be laid to rest at a later date.
