Lois Elaine (Smith) Schuelke, age 80, entered into the joys of eternal life on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center in Sheboygan Falls,
Lois was born on September 30, 1942 in Kenosha to Malvern and Vera (Olsson) Smith. She became a child of God through Holy Baptism at Friedens Lutheran Church in Kenosha. Lois attended Friedens Grade School, Racine Lutheran High School, Milwaukee Lutheran Teacher's College, and graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN in 1962. Lois began her teaching career in Wonewoc, WI. She also served her Lord in Algoma, Hartford, Pompano Beach, FL, Egg Harbor, Green Bay, and Marinette. After retiring she served as a substitute teacher, tutor, organist, and teacher's aid for several years. While teaching in Door County, Lois met her soul mate, Gerald J. Schuelke, and married on October 19, 1991. She acquired an extended family of four children, ten grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. The Lord blessed them through 25 years. Lois' husband Jerry, taught her bow and gun hunting as well as fishing which they enjoyed together. They also belonged to a card club. When on her own Lois enjoyed collecting many things, reading, doing puzzles, and working on various craft projects.
She is survived by nine nieces and nephews, 13 great nieces and nephews, 12 great great nieces and nephews, as well as many other relatives and friends. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Jerome Schuelke, her parents, Malvern and Vera (Olsson) Smith, five brothers, Rev. Melvin (Lillian), Rodger, Ramon (Geraldine), Neil (Carole), and Thomas (Barbara) Smith, and one infant niece, Cindy Lou.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at First German Ev. Lutheran Church, 1033 South 8 th Street, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Mark Johnston. Relatives and friends may call at First German Ev. Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel with burial of her cremated remains to be laid to rest at Sunset Ridge Cemetery in Kenosha at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials would be appreciated in Lois' name to First German Ev. Lutheran Church or the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod Foundation. Online condolences to the family may be sent to www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com
The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11 th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
