Lyle W. Root, age 94, a Manitowoc resident, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Lyle was born on October 15, 1922 in North Fond du Lac. He was the son of the late Elmer and Dorothy Bennett Root. Lyle attended North Fond du Lac High School. At the age of 18 Lyle joined the United States Army. He served overseas in the coast artillery during World War II in New Guinea, Philippine Islands, and Japan. After being honorably discharged from the military Lyle became employed at Eck Industries as a molder and later was employed at Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry. He also did home painting.
He is survived by one son: Warren Root, Manitowoc; two daughters: Hertha (Bob) Marquardt, Alaska; Marla (Rick) Meidl, Manitowoc; one brother: Burton (Judy) Root, Two Rivers; one sister: Tammy Ricks, Two Rivers; grandchildren, nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Elmer and Dorothy Root; long time special friend: Nadine Eis; one son: Brian Root; one brother: Arden; two sisters: Dorothy and Jeanette.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Officiating will be Mr. Dennis Olson. Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Following the funeral service a luncheon will be held for relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the funeral home.
