Marcella R. (Karbon) Balzan, age 91, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Kindred Hearts.
Marcella was born on February 17, 1925 in the town of Gibson to the late John and Rose Novy Karbon Sr. On September 28, 1946, Marcella married Anthony Balzan Sr. in Cooperstown. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1996. Marcella was employed by Imperial Eastman Company for 17 years until she retired in 1987. She was a member of Kumbale-O'Conner VFW Post #6179 women's auxiliary and Wisconsin Czech Choraliers.
Survivors include four children: Ray Balzan, Anthony (Connie) Balzan, Jr., Paula (Greg) Schneider, all of Manitowoc; and Lisa (Rick) Wetenkamp, Newtonburg; brother: John Karbon Jr., Carstens Lake; sister: Bernice Christensen, Denmark; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Rose Karbon; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Marcella was preceded in death by four sisters: Rose Cookle, Adaline Karbon, Gladys Mathis and Ethel Thompson; three brothers: Gordon, Harold and Howard Karbon; two sisters-in-law: Elenor and Mary Karbon; three brothers-in-law: Lester Mathis, Robert Thompson and Claude Christansen. On the Balzan side of the family she was preceded in death by four brothers-in-law: Tony Zucchi Sr., Evo, Orlando and Alex Balzan; and four sisters-in-law: Mary Zucchi, June, Norma and Helen Balzan.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Lay Pastor Phil Kinzel will officiate with entombment to take place at Knollwood Mausoleum. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Following the funeral service, a luncheon will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.
