Obituary

Marcella A. Thielen, age 97, of New London, Wisconsin, formerly of 720 New York Avenue, Manitowoc, entered eternal life Friday evening, November 25, 2011 at the New London Family Medical Center, New London, Wisconsin.

Marcella was born on May 28, 1914 in Centerville, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of the late Max and Louise Haaker Bermke. Marcella attended Lincoln High School and graduated with the class of 1932. She was employed at Johnson-Hills Department Store, Schuette Brothers Department Store and Memorial Hospital from where she retired in 1979. On November 19, 1935 she married George H. Thielen in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1985. Marcella was a member of Grace Ev. Lutheran Church.

She is survived by three children: Roger (Joan) Thielen, Marion, WI; Gary Thielen, Green Bay, WI; Barbara (Randy) Harvey, Mapelwood, MN; one brother: Allen (Marian) Bermke, Sheboygan, WI; one sister: Carol Bishop, Shoto; nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Max and Louise Bermke; husband: George H. Thielen; one grandson: Timothy Thielen; one brother: Frederick Bermke; daughter-in-law: Carol Thielen.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, 2426 North Rapids Road, Manitowoc. Officiating will be Rev. Thomas Pankow with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.

Special thanks to Dan Mercer and staff at Chatham Apartments for all their care and concern. Also special thanks to granddaughter and caregiver Kim for all the loving care above and beyond. Also special thanks to granddaughter Tammy for her extra care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be directed to Grace Ev. Lutheran Church Ladies Aid.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair Streets, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
