Obituary

Maria I. Hernandez, age 51, a resident of 1918 Richmond Avenue, Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers.

Maria was born on June 18, 1963 in Catacamas Olancho, Honduras to the late Federico and Maria Gaytan Sanchez. Maria felt the call of God to become a minister 35 years ago. She studied at Garret-Evangelical Theological Seminary. Maria dedicated her life in serving the community and building relationships and bringing people to Christ. She was the founder of the first Hispanic Nazarene Church in Madison, WI "Vida Nueva" in 2002. Later Maria was called to start a new Hispanic church in Manitowoc WI, "Camino de FE." Alongside with her husband Dario, she also helped found the Hispanic community center "Mi Pueblo." Maria enjoyed the simple things in life like spending time with her family and traveling to Honduras to be with her parents. She enjoyed walks along the lakeshore and family outings. When she was not at church putting in countless hours into her sermon and service preparation, she was at home being a wonderful wife and mother to her husband Dario Hernandez, who she married on December 21, 1990 in Catacamas Olancho, Honduras, and two children Darwin and Norma Maria. Even though she took on multiple tasks as a minister, wife and mother at home and in church, she never stopped encouraging, changing and impacting people's lives with her testimony and heart to love people simply because she wanted too. Her work on earth is not done. The mandate on her life is passed on to those who were touched by her example. Her memory will forever live in us.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Lakeshore United Methodist Church, 411 Reed Avenue, Manitowoc with Rev. Thomas Dunham officiating.
