Mary Louise Grund (nee Greening), age 100, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2016 in Manitowoc. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Frank Grund. Loving and devoted mother of Rick (Patti) Grund and Alan (Julia) Grund. She was preceded in death by her husband: Frank; parents: Martin and Louise Greening; son: Rick; three sisters: Lydia, Olga, and Bertha; three brothers: Edward, Charles, and Gustav. Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Alan Grund and Julia Groeschel; daughter-in-law: Patti (Rick) Grund; grandchildren: A.J. (Maggie) Grund, Sam Grund, Jeff Grund, Jonnie Grund, Lori Gebert, Tracy (Mike) Morgan, Kim Spuda, Jamie (Michelle) Ferra; many great grandchildren and other relatives, including niece, Christine (Frank) Kusak and great-niece, Joanne Gorenc.
Mary was born on March 30, 1916 in Minneapolis. She was the youngest of seven children. Her parents moved several times while she grew up during the Depression before settling in the Milwaukee area. Mary met and married Frank Grund in 1947. She was a devoted wife and mother. After her husband died in 1964, Mary went back to work and raised her sons on her own. Family was always the most important thing for Mary. She loved children. She put her children, and later her grandchildren above anything else in her life. Mary was always there to help. She will be missed by those she left behind. Mary was a religious person and a member of Bethany Ev. Lutheran Church in Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Waldemar Loescher. Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2016 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Milwaukee. Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 5 p.m. until the time of services at 7 p.m. Following the funeral service there will be a reception held for relatives and friends with hors d'oeuvres and beverages at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the funeral home.
Words that held a special meaning for Mary: How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong, because someday in your life you will have been all of these.
