Mary J. Meyer, age 87, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Laurel Grove Assisted Living.
Mary was born on December 1, 1938 in Escanaba, MI to the late Alfred and Mildred (Rasmussen) Ottensman. After graduating from Holy Name High School, she went on to receive her nursing degree from Holy Family School of Nursing in Manitowoc with the class of 1959. On November 12, 1960, Mary married Kenneth Meyer in Escanaba, MI. She had worked at the former Memorial Hospital, then Holy Family Hospital, and concluded her working career from Manitowoc County Public Health, from where she retired in 1997. Mary enjoyed taking many bus trips with Ken where they saw all the Major League Baseball Parks and made it to all 50 states. They also took many trips camping in all the major State Parks. Mary was a Girl Scout Leader for many years, volunteered as a bellringer for the Salvation Army, and a member of St. Francis of Assisi.
Survivors include Mary’s husband of 65 years, Ken; two daughters, Cathy (Jon) Tadych, Brillion; and Carol (Walter) Mielke, Manitowoc; son, Gerry Meyer, Two Rivers; three grandchildren, Justin Stuckmann, Irving, TX; Nathan (Angie) Tadych, Oshkosh; and Jenna Tadych, Neenah; two great grandchildren, Rylie and Hayden Tadych, Oshkosh; also other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Mildred Ottensman; brother, James Ottensman, Escanaba, MI; sister, Barb (Bob) Snow, Milwaukee; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Martha (Vernon) Schultz, Elaine (Henry) Schurr, Lucille (Kenneth) Boeckman, and Henry (Betty) Meyer.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Deacon Rich Bahnaman will officiate with burial of Mary’s cremated remains to be held at Knollwood Memorial Gardens at a later date. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 9 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com

Mary’s family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staffs of Sharon S. Richardson Hospice and the 3rd floor of Shady Lane Nursing Home for all the care and compassion they provided.
