Milan F. Fischer, age 82, a Manitowoc resident, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers. We saw he was getting tired so after a short illness we said our good byes. He left us for the waiting arms of his Lord and Savior.
Milan was born November 30, 1932 in Appleton. He was a graduate of Appleton West High School and continued his education at Fox Valley Technical School. Milan proudly served his country with the United States Marines Special Forces during the Korean War. On February 23, 1979 he married the former Vergean A. Heinze in Green Bay. Milan was retired from Weyerhaeuser where he had been employed as a maintenance manager. Known as a hard worker, Milan held several part time positions: security guard at Mirro Aluminum, an NRA instructor, crossing guard at Jackson Elementary School (where he was known as "Mr. Happy"), Wild Iris deliveries, WCUB and All States Rigging. His last job was at Festival Foods and he loved all the people there. Milan was always willing to help anyone in need and volunteered with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Triad, and the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Department as a reserve deputy. He was a member of Faith Church and loved working with the youth group. As a participant in the Reminisce Choir, directed by Gene Nelson, Milan sang gospel songs and impersonated Johnny Cash to a "T". Nursing home residents really enjoyed his performances. Milan will always be remembered for his infectious laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years: Vergean; his dog Dixie, faithful friend and companion; stepfather: Pete Hermes, Appleton; one sister: Jean Nettekoven, Black Creek; one daughter: Diane (Bob) Klenke, Ashwaubenon; one son: Mark Fischer and special friend, Barb, DePere; two grandchildren: Beth and Lisa; two sisters-in-law: Jane Hesselberg and Rosie Heinze; numerous nieces and nephews along with other relatives and friends.
