Norbert "Nubbs" Zelinski, age 94, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life late Wednesday evening, January 3, 2018 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.
Norbert was born on April 8, 1923 in Menasha. He was the son of the late Leonard and Sophia Sokoloski Zelinski. Norbert attended Washington High School in Two Rivers. He entered the United States Navy remaining state side during his time in the Navy and was honorably discharged. Norbert was employed for many years with the Kelvinator Company. In 1952 he was married to Helen LeClair in Two Rivers. She preceded him in death in 1953. He later married Eunice Nikolai on November 12, 1955 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot. Norbert was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the American Legion Drews Bleser Post #88. Norbert was an avid stamp and coin collector along with World War II memorabilia. He enjoyed photography, playing dartball and bowling in past years and was also an avid fisherman around the Manitowoc area. Norbert was very interested in history, especially the world War II era having read over 1000 books. With the great knowledge he gained from these books, when Norbert would come across errors that were found in some publications he would contact the authors and provide documented information to correct and bring the information up to date which was received with thanks and appreciation by the authors. Norbert had great joy following his grandchildren's events. He was a caring and very giving person always looking to be of help to others.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years: Eunice; three sons: Michael (Ann) Zelinski, Larabee; Donald (Sue) Zelinski, Manitowoc; Charles (Tammy) Zelinski, Manitowoc; three daughters: Patricia (Michael) Morley, Manitowoc; Mary (Jeffrey) Phillips, Manitowoc; Nanci (Joel) Steber, Suamico; seven grandchildren: Danielle Morley, Michael Zelinski, Allison Zelinski, Samuel Phillips, Carly Phillips, Katelyn Zelinski, and Alex Steber; one sister-in-law: Polly Zelinski, Two Rivers; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Leonard and Sophia Zelinski; his first wife: Helen and their infant son; and four brothers: Leonard, James, Jerry, and William "Peachy" Zelinski.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday , January 8, 2018 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Doug LeCaptain. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Military honors will be provided at the church following the funeral service by the American Legion Drews Bleser Post #88. A luncheon for relatives and friends will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 North Water Street, Manitowoc, located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.
