Peter F. Schleis, age 87, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Sunday evening, December 31, 2017, at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center in Manitowoc.
Pete was born on October 23, 1930 in Manitowoc. He was the son of the late Peter E. and Marie Augustine Schleis. He attended St. Paul's Catholic Grade School and was a graduate of Lincoln High School with the class of 1948. Pete served his country with the United States Army. After being honorably discharged he returned to Manitowoc. Pete owned and operated Schleis Auto Electric for many years in Manitowoc. On October 18, 1952 he married Doris L. Heindl at St. Paul Catholic Church in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on March 9, 2013. Pete was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #710, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Assembly #1212, Veterans of Foreign Wars Otto Oas Post #659, Amvets Post #99, and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. In past years Pete was active with local bowling leagues.
He is survived by three sons: Bill (Laurel) Schleis, Manitowoc; Tim (June Prestin) Schleis, Menominee Falls; and Jimbo Schleis and special friend Marybeth Rabideau, Manitowoc; two daughters: Susan Schleis, Galesville; and Nancy (Beau) Beaulieu, Manitowoc; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, three brothers: Richard Schleis, Whitewater; William (Ranee) Schleis, Baton Rouge, LA; Lawrence (Elizabeth) Schleis, Manitowoc; four sisters: Marie (Terry) Snowden, Spring Grove, MN; Joan Nate, Manitowoc; Shirley Goff, Big Bend; Marilyn Saari, Cathlamet, WA; sister-in-law: Leslie Schleis, MA; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Peter E. and Marie Schleis; wife: Doris; son: Peter G. Schleis; and brother: Bob Schleis.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Grand, 1416 Grand Avenue, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Richard Klingeisen with cremation to follow at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. Relatives and friends may call at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Grand on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow for relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 North Water Street, Manitowoc, located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.
