Obituary

Phyllis H. Bremer, age 80, resident of Manitowoc, entered into eternal life on Monday, September 12, 2011 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center in Manitowoc.

Phyllis was born on January 9, 1931 in Highland, IL to Edna Hug Riepshoff and the late Milton Hug. She attended Highland High School with the class of 1949 and then continued her education at Southern Illinois University, Millikin University, and Northern Illinois University. On August 5, 1950, Phyllis married Rev. Calvin C.H. Bremer in Highland, IL. Rev. Bremer preceded Phyllis in death on January 31, 2008. Phyllis taught fourth grade children at Decatur Public Schools and Oakbrook Public Schools in Illinois. Phyllis' life centered around her family and the people closest to her.

Survivors include two sons: Eric Bremer, Chicago, IL; and Jared (Jodi) Bremer, Manitowoc; six grandchildren: Hans, Chris, Martin, Elisabeth, Lydia and Carl Bremer; mother: Edna Hug Riepshoff, Highland, IL; one sister and brother-in-law: Karen (Paul) Potthast, Highland, IL; one nephew: Michael Potthast, Highland, IL; also Jodi's parents: Eugene and Marlys Schwantz, Manitowoc; also other relatives and friends. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Calvin C.H. Bremer; father: Milton Hug; aunt and uncle: Helen and Sydney Biggerstaff; step-father: Orville Riepshoff.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Blessed Angela Chapel at Felician Village, 1635 S. 21st Street, Manitowoc on Friday, September 16, 2011 from 11 am until the time of the memorial service at 11:30 am. The Rev. Dr. Matthew Sauer will officiate and burial will take place at Highland Cemetery at a later date.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, N. 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Phyllis' family would like to extend a special thank you to the physicians and staff of Holy Family Memorial Medical Center for the care she received.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials in Phyllis' name to the Holy Family Cancer Care Center or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
