Richard "Dick" J. Steitzer, age 85, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Friday, October 27, 2017 at River Woods Place in Manitowoc.
Dick was born on May 25, 1932 in Milwaukee. He was the son of the late William W. and Margariette Holling Hawley. In 1951 Dick entered the United States Navy and served his country until the time of his honorable discharge in June 1953. Dick was a journeyman electrician IBEW, retiring after 36 years from A.O. Smith. He was an active boater, loved and enjoyed the outdoors with camping, fishing, hunting and bicycling. Dick spent most of his live in Milwaukee and Menomonee Falls area. After retiring he moved to Seattle, WA area and later to Omaha, NE. After his wife passed away Dick moved back to Wisconsin and settled in the Manitowoc area after purchasing a 38 foot sailboat which he enjoyed on Lake Michigan. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by four sons: William (Angie) Steitzer, Omaha, NE; Daniel (Le) Steitzer, San Jose, CA; Fritz (Juliet) Steitzer, Oconomowoc; Rod (Tokata) Steitzer, Kirkland, WA; three daughters: Ann (Gary) Slifka, Eau Claire; May (Gordy) Driebel, Menomonee Falls; Vera (John) Wichman,Waubeka; two brothers: Neil (Mitchiko) Steitzer, California and Hawaii; Dave (Marilyn) Steitzer, Rhinelander; one sister: Beverly Hendrichs, LaCrosse; special friend: Sophie Schuenemann, Manitowoc; twenty grandchildren, ten great grandchildren with one great grandchild on the way in May 2018; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: William and Margariette Steitzer; wife: Sally; sister: Joyce Heart; and his dearly loved mother-in-law: Selma Hulce.
Private memorial services were held for the family on Monday, October 30, 2017 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Cremation took place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel.
