Robert M. Deubler, age 83, of 617 North 7th Street, Manitowoc, entered eternal life Friday afternoon, January 2, 2015 at North Ridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center where he resided the past six months.
Bob was born August 14, 1931 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He was the son of the late Milton and Rose Schuh Deubler. Bob attended the Manitowoc Public School system graduating from Lincoln High School in 1949. He continued his education at Oshkosh State College where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in education. Bob then furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he received his Master's Degree in secondary special education. Bob was a teacher at Fox Lake for two and a half years and then returned to Manitowoc where he was a teacher at Lincoln Highs School for 35 years. During his tenure at Lincoln High School, Bob was the tennis coach for many years. He had been a member of the local, state and national teachers associations. In 1956 Bob and his wife Ellie started the Manitowoc Tennis Club and for many years they ran the Manitowoc County Tennis Tournament. Bob was inducted into the Lakeshore Hall of Fame, Lincoln Wall of Fame, and the Wisconsin State Tennis Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Manitowoc Historical Society. On February 23, 1952 he married Eleanor J. Wood at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Manitowoc.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years: Ellie; three children: Kristine (Dean) Kirst, Sun Prairie, WI; Robert (Kathy) Deubler, Land O' Lakes, WI; Christopher "Kit" (Ellen) Deubler, Two Rivers, WI; four grandchildren: Elizabeth (Philip) Goes, Michael Kirst, Amanda (Adam) Bahr, and Elise Thomm, one niece: Keri Olson; two nephews: Jamie and Steve Schmitt; special friends: Milt and Karen Bashaw and Marilyn Jorgensen; along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Milton and Rose Deubler; one daughter: Amy Thomm, May 20, 1995; one sister: Sharon Schmitt, 1998; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Joe and Carrie Wood.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Dave Beaudry with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, WI. Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:30 a.m. Following the funeral services there will be a luncheon for relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the funeral home.
