Obituary

Rodger A. Smith, age 89, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Monday, November 19, 2018 at his residence.

Rodger was born on October 9, 1929 in Kenosha. He was the son of the late Malvern and Vera Olsson Smith.  Rodger was a graduate of Kenosha High School with the class of 1949.  He entered the United States Army on March 5, 1951 and served overseas in Korea for eleven months.  Rodger was honorably discharged on December 15, 1952.  He dedicated his life and time to the Lord as much as possible by serving on several church committees, singing in the church choir, and working with handicapped children and adults when living in Kenosha in his younger years.  After serving his country Rodger had jobs in drafting and illustrations, banking and was employed for seventeen years working for the government  in Civil Service in Illinois and Wisconsin.  In January 1991 Rodger became a member of First German Ev. Lutheran Church where he served on the Spiritual Welfare Committee and as an usher for many years.  In his free time Rodger listened to Christian Music, reading through the Bible time and again as well as various other religious books and publications. His favorite activities and recreation were bowling, golfing and fishing.

He is survived by one sister: Lois Schuelke, Manitowoc; one brother:  Raymond Smith, Kenosha; one  sister-in-law:  Carole Smith, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents:  Malvern and Vera Smith; two brothers and two sisters-in-law:  Rev. Melvin and Lillian Smith, Neil Smith, and Geraldine Smith.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, November 23, 2018 at First German Ev. Lutheran Church, 1033 South 8 th Street, Manitowoc.  Officiating will be Rev. Mark Johnston.  Burial will take place at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park in Kenosha.  Relatives and friends may call at First German Ev. Lutheran Church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.
