Roy A. Knorr, age 93, of 9305 County Trunk C, Newton, Wisconsin, entered eternal life late Sunday evening, June 6, 2010 at the family residence.
Roy was born on July 20, 1916 at Pigeon Lake, Wisconsin. He was the son of the late Reuben and Frieda Schmidt Knorr. Roy served with the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945 in both the African and European Theaters of War. After his honorable discharge he returned to Manitowoc where he became employed at Hingiss Chevrolet and Implement from 1946 to 1955. Roy then became employed at Thomas Larson Chevrolet in Valders as the service manager then later employed with Hamachek Company of Manitowoc. Roy then started his own business, the Hi-Way 42 Garage which he operated for many years retiring in 1978. After retiring Roy continued to drive school bus until 1982. On February 12, 1943 he married Cordelia J. Vogt at Fort Benning, Georgia. Roy was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Thompson-Burkard American Legion Post #28 in Valders, and a long time volunteer at the Manitowoc Senior Center. Roy enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and bingo. He was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years: Cordelia; two children: Michael (Kathleen) Knorr, rural Manitowoc; Carol (John) Debroux, Green Bay, WI; three grandchildren: Mark (Sue) Knorr; Eugene Knorr; Jennifer (Brad) Lloyd; six great grandchildren: Angela, Derek and Jacob Knorr; Victoria, Joshua and Lily Lloyd; one sister-in-law: Virginia Knorr, North Carolina; two brothers-in-law: Herman Pagel, Chilton, WI; Lawrence Schleis, Medford, WI; sister-in-law: Bernice Vogt, Chilton, WI; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son: John Knorr; three sisters, one brother and one brother-in-law.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Richard Klingeisen. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Chilton, WI. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Drews Bleser Post #88. Relatives and friends may call at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Marshall on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.
The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
