Roydan D. Olson

A true and noble gentleman has passed. Roydan David Olson, 86 years of age and a longtime resident of Manitowoc WI, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 16, 2026.

Roy was born in Manitowoc on June 6, 1940 to Roydan and Helen Olson. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958 and joined the US Army 2 years later, serving as a proud Combat Engineer in Germany from 1960-1963. After his military service Roy returned to Manitowoc and met Sandra Maedke, later marrying her on August 9, 1969. He worked until his retirement in 2002 as a Union Local 731 carpenter, where he devoted the same attention and care to his work as he did to every aspect of his life. All who knew Roy would agree that he was the most gentle, compassionate, and kind man who would always lend a hand to others.

Survivors include Roy’s wife Sandra, daughter Kelly Jelinek (John) and son Craig (Julie), sister Marianne Ditewig (Randy); loving grandchildren Callie, Henry, and Abraham.

Following Roy’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service.

Roydan’s family would like to express sincere gratitude to the CCU unit at Froedtert Holy Family Hospital and Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for their warmth, compassion and kindness during Roy’s final days. The care nurses Cami and Sandy provided to not only Roy but to his family will never be forgotten - thank you.
