Russell L. Wachholz, age 90, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Azura Memory Care in Manitowoc.
Russell was born on July 8, 1924 in Kossuth to the late Edwin and Viola Hassemer Wachholz. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1944. On May 11, 1946, Russell married Alveria Schmit at St. Anne Catholic Church in Francis Creek. Russell was employed with the Manitowoc Fire Department of 32 years and retired as a Captain. He also owned and operated Russell TV and Repair for 25 years. Russell enjoyed spending his time fishing, hunting, and as a hobby farmer on the family farm. He was a handyman that could fix most anything, and never threw anything away. Russell enjoyed exercising his frugality – a trait he tried to pass on to his four children. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.
Survivors include Russell's wife of 69 years: Alveria; four daughters: Mary Ellen (Michael) Alsvig, Two Rivers; Nancy (Thomas) Krueger, Waukesha; Karen (David) Householder, Mauston; and Lori Jean (Ray) Mettetal, Johnson City, TN; seven grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; three great grandchildren; a step-great grandson; sister: Mary (Frank) Beesten, Kewaskum; also other relatives and friends. Russell was preceded in death by one granddaughter and three siblings.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Marshall- 1114 South 21st Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. William Brunner with burial to take place at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. Following the memorial service, a luncheon for family and friends will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.
