Obituary

Ruth S. Meisner passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at her home with her loving family surrounding her.

Ruth was born on September 3, 1920 in Manitowoc to parents, Otto and Clara Schlundt. She was raised in Two Rivers with her two sisters, Elaine (Tauschek) and Karlyn (Burtard).

After graduating from Washington High School in 1939, she continued her education at Manitowoc County Normal Teacher's College, graduating in 1942. Ruth then taught grades 1-8 and 1-4 at several local schools including Crystal Springs, Pine Grove and Branch. After meeting her soulmate, Fritz Meisner and marrying in 1946, they worked in Indiana for several years and then returned and continued to live in Two Rivers. Ruth ended her long and rewarding teaching career after 20 plus years as a 4th grade teacher at Grant Elementary School in Sheboygan. Retirement was spent traveling with Fritz and loving and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her garden, church activities and volunteering at the Two Rivers Historical Society Washington House. Ruth was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Two Rivers.

She is survived by her daughter: Marie (Glen) Artz, Two Rivers; son: Carl Meisner, Fort Collins, CO; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren: Mariah Fitzpatrick (Dan), son Kaison and daughter Isabelle; Rory Fitzpatrick of Green Bay and his daughter Katherine and Jacob Artz (Danielle) and his children Jayden and Frederick. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the lights and loves of her life and they brightened her every day. Nieces, nephews, cousins along with other relatives and many dear friends also survive as well as all of her "grandchildren" borrowed from other families and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Fred, sisters, and brothers-in-law. She was "Everyone's Grandma" and will be remembered fondly by many whose lives she touched with her kindness, generosity and love.

We want her to know that she did a great job and wish her a safe journey to a wonderful place where she will be socializing, dancing, gardening, reading and most likely making ice cream sundaes to her heart's content. She left instructions to her family to celebrate her mission here, which has now been completed. We will remember her smile, her warmth, her energy, her love for life, family friends and the hundreds of students she loved through the years. She worked hard all of her life, gave unselfishly of herself and made a difference in the lives of many. We invite you to join us in celebrating her kind, loving, joyous and generous life at a Life Celebration Social on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 North Water Street, Manitowoc, located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. At 6 p.m. there will be prayers led by Chaplain Pat from Heartland Hospice followed by shared memories of this wonderful woman with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial in Ruth's name to be made to The Washington House (Two Rivers Historical Society). Online condolences to the family may be made to www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Heartland Hospice: Dr. Gahl, nurses Kelly and Kim, special caregiver, Jessica and the entire staff. You enriched her last years with your compassion and love and we will be forever grateful.
