Sandra A. Barnes, age 70, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.
Sandra was born on October 9, 1945 in Manitowoc to the late Edwin and Lioba Geigel Sauer. She grew up in Taus and graduated from Reedsville High School with the class of 1962. Sandra was employed as a cook at Two Rivers Community Hospital and also at Creative Learning Center in Two Rivers. On July 3, 1965, Sandra married Donald Spaeth at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kellnersville. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1982. On October 19, 1996, Sandra married James Barnes at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2014. Sandra enjoyed providing for people by feeding them – her main ingredient was always love. Sandra was an advocate for children and adults with developmental disabilities. She served on the board of the Association for the Developmentally Disabled and was very active within the organization. Sandra was a volunteer for Holy Family Memorial Medical Center and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Above all, Sandra enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her family and friends – especially her "grands".
Survivors include Sandra's three children: Marlo Spaeth, Manitowoc; Amy Jo Stevenson, New Holstein and her children, Naomi, Raven and Derek II, all of Chicago; Nathan (Angela) Spaeth of Two Rivers and their two children, Ruby and Lila; and four step-children: Kenneth Barnes, Manitowoc; Barbara Barnes, Manitowoc; Thomas Barnes, Madison; and Kristin (Jim) Haworth, Eau Claire and their two children, Emily and Katy; brother: Harlan (Connie) Sauer, Whitelaw; four sisters: Darlene (Bob) Grall, Whitelaw; Gloria (Raymond) Lisowe, Stockbridge; Cyndie Siehr and special friend Dennis Parkos, Manitowoc; and Melissa Duggan, Whitelaw; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Sandra was preceded in death by two sisters: Diane Gilbertson and Vickie Lau.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo – 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Dave Beaudry with burial to take place at Knollwood Memorial Gardens. Following the funeral service, a luncheon will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Monday, June 20, 2016 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. The visitation will continue on Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com
