Obituary

Shirley Ann Daugs, age 78, a Manitowoc resident, was reunited with her loving husband, Glenn, and entered into eternal life on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center in Manitowoc.

Shirley was born on August 12, 1935 in Two Rivers to the late Edna Rahn Nuenfeldt and Alfred Buhk. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1954. In 1957, Shirley was engaged to Glenn Daugs. The couple planned an August wedding but their love could not wait and they eloped on April 1, 1957 in Iron Mountain, Michigan. Glenn preceded her in death on June 20, 2010. They were married for 53 years and in that time, built a legacy of caring, compassion and devotion to each other and their family.

Shirley seldom sat down and continuously planned for her next outing or family gathering. When not fulfilling wishes of anyone she knew (a.k.a. shopping for gifts) she was doing something to help others. She spent more than 20 years preparing meals at the Manitowoc Senior Center, she coached a team of "Angels" in bowling, and for decades she was a driving force behind the local bowling scene. In fact, in 2005 she was named to the Bowling Hall of Fame for her contributions to the sport.

She loved sharing her caramel corn during the holiday season with her family and friends. She loved WOMT radio and listened to it from dawn to dusk for 56 years. She loved collecting giraffes. But above all, spending time with her family and friends was her true joy. Shirley was a member of First German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc.

Survivors include five daughters: Dawn Czekala, Lori (Todd) Boeckman, Jody Laes, Wendy (Carl) Artman, and Jenny (Jason) Isselmann; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister: Eunice Gadzinski; her pets; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Glenn, parents, two brothers: Don Buhk and Melvin Buhk.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2013 at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1033 S. Eighth St., Manitowoc. Rev. Christopher Hoppe and Rev. Benjamin Schaefer will officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon.
