Shirley J. Scroggins, age 87, a life-long resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Friday afternoon, April 14, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and Christian. Her passion for life, the well-being of her family, animals and the less-fortunate will continue to be an inspiration. Her calm, loving nature and positive outlook on life will be greatly missed. She was loved by many and will be forever in our hearts.
Shirley was born on June 16, 1929 in Manitowoc to the late John and Laura Opperman Turek. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1948 and later graduated from Green Bay Technical School of Practical Nursing in 1967 where she was class president. On February 10, 1949, Shirley married Richard B. Scroggins in Sheboygan Falls. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2007. She retired from Shady Lane Nursing Care Center in Manitowoc after 27 years of dedicated service to her patients. Shirley was a member of Lakeshore United Methodist Church, and was a past member of Wisconsin Association of Licensed Practical Nurses and National Foundation of LPN.
Shirley is survived by her children, Richard (Lynn), of Cleveland and David (Jean Lulloff), of Kiel. Grandchildren: McGuire (Tiffany) Scroggins and Chad Scroggins of Colorado; Sam (Mayumi) Scroggins, of Japan; Lisa (Wendy) Eckhart of Minnesota; and Phillip, Miranda and Candace. Great grandchildren: Lilika and Yuto Scroggins and Beckham Eckhart. Her beloved cat, Peanut Butter (PB). Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, by her two brothers, John and Edward Turek and her three sisters: Beverly Ziarnik, Betty Pearson and Dorothy Schlorf.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Rev. Carly Kuntz will officiate with entombment to take place at Knollwood Mausoleum. Following the funeral service, a reception will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m.
