Obituary

On December 2nd, 2019, Stephen G Seguin set sail on his final journey into eternal peace.

Born on September 4 th , 1954 to Grace and LJ Seguin of Theinsville, WI and grew up as a typical boy. There are plenty of stories of him and best friend Tom Heinskill carrying out shenanigans. Stephen graduated from Homestead High School and went on to get a Business Degree from UW Stevens Point (and yes he was proud of "working" at Stevens Point Brewery during that time). He wrote several papers on transportation, which would prelude his career choices. After school, Stephen worked as a dispatcher at School Transport, where he would meet his wife. He married Kristin L. Saunders on June 12, 1981 and took on her three children as his own. Stephen's next job would lead to a 30 year career in the Department of Transportation in the DMV. He moved his family to Manitowoc in 1984, which is where he would live out the rest of his life.

Stephen had a love of all things that went go - trains, planes, ships, and cars. From Indy car racing to sitting next to river with his grandchildren watching the challenger come in to the cement plant, he was fascinated. Boat Nerd was always up on the computer. Stephen even hitched rides on the trains that ran through town with his grandson, as he had seen them watching them work and invited them to join the fun.

His family was his center though. Although he loved his kids, his eight grandchildren were his greatest joy. Stephen took to being a grandfather like breathing and taught them everything he knew- including how to be pranksters! His fun loving nature was contagious. In 2013, Stephen taught them how to be strong, courageous, and to never give up when he became a quadriplegic.  You bet he still told naughty jokes and raced the children in Lakeview campground in his wheelchair. Stephen was an incredible inspiration and was a friend to all.

Survivors include Stephen's wife, Kristin L. Seguin; three children, Jennifer N. (Jason) Retlich, Joshua R. (Christina) Seguin, and Jessica J. (Nicholas) Gosz;  eight grandchildren, Caitlin (Tony Michel) Seguin, Alec Seguin, Mara Seguin, Ian Krcma, Andon Meunier, Paige Gosz, Gunnar Retlich, and Parker Retlich; brother, Michael (Kandy) Seguin; sister, Julie Seguin and her special friend, Karen; mother in-law, Nancy Thurow; brother-in-law, Kelly (Nancy) Thurow; sister in-law, Kimberly Thurow; also nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends. Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Lionel James Seguin and Grace Burgess Seguin.

Due to his love of diving and maritime history, his life will be celebrated on Sunday, December 8th at the Maritime Museum, 75 Maritime Dr., Manitowoc WI 54220 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel.
