Obituary

On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, Thomas Damian Crowley, age 86, a resident of Manitowoc, died peacefully at home in the care of his family.

Tom was born on July 28, 1937 in Madison to late parents, Joseph and Imelda (Doyle) Crowley. He was a 1955 graduate of Lincoln High School in Manitowoc. Tom served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp from 1955-1958. He then completed his post-secondary education at the Alexian Brothers School of Nursing in Chicago and graduated as a registered nurse.

On August 25, 1962, Tom married Nancy Jellison in Wheaton, IL at St. Michael Catholic Church. They were married for almost 60 years before Nancy preceded him in death on January 10, 2022.

Tom followed in the footsteps of his father and was employed at the Mirro Company as an industrial nurse for 39 years. He knew every employee's name and worked diligently to care for their safety and health.

Tom was a humble man who quietly believed in giving back to his community and caring for others. He served as an alderman for the 5th ward for 10 years and ran for mayor. Tom was a member of the Local Board 37 Selective Service System. He was a lector and council trustee of St. Paul Catholic Church. Tom was a volunteer at Felician Village in their coffee shop. He was an advocate for literacy and worked with emerging reading students at Jefferson Elementary School and St. Francis Xavier School. He also volunteered as a nurse at Camp Tekakwitha and Camp American Legion. Tom believed strongly in blood and organ donations. He participated in an Alzheimer's study for over 20 years and his brain was donated to the University of Indiana to further the study of the disease.

Tom enjoyed sports, reading, traveling domestically and internationally, his Wednesday morning coffee group and Thursday night wings group, and breakfasts with former classmates and colleagues. He was a man of deep faith and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family and friends brought him immense joy.

Survivors include Tom's three daughters, Shannon (Jeff) Pritzl, Colleen Crowley, Kiara (Kevin Oswald) Crowley-Oswald. Tom's grandchildren held his heart, Taylor (Abby) Pritzl, Payton Pritzl, Kieran Crowley-Oswald, Morgan Pritzl, Fiona Crowley-Oswald, and Tomas Crowley. He had the opportunity to meet his first great-grandchild, Cecilia Pritzl, a week before his death. Tom had a brother, Donald Crowley; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Stephen (Diane) Jellison and Susan (Thomas) Hodson; and nieces and nephews, Craig Smith, Michael Hodson, Jen Klair, Ryan Hodson, Keeley Crowley, Matt Jellison, and Tim Jellison. Preceding Tom in death were his sister, Gemma Crowley-Smith and nephews, Doug Smith, Ryan Crowley, and Danny Smith.

Tom and Nancy have also been host parents to 13 international students who became a special part of the Crowley family.

Tom's family would like to thank the staff of Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for their outstanding support, care and wisdom. A special thank you is extended to Kim, Amy, Ellen, Rachel and Paul.
