Thomas Frank
Walker
December 22, 1944 – May 10, 2023
Thomas Frank Walker died on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI from coronary artery disease.
Tom was born December 22, 1944, in Milwaukee, WI, the only child of Lottie (Normington) and Birnam Walker. He grew up in Manitowoc and graduated from Lincoln High School with the Class of 1963. He attended Carthage College in Kenosha and graduated in 1967 with a degree in Business Administration. He spent his summers in Three Lakes, WI fishing, boang, water skiing, and enjoying life at the family cottage.
In October of 1967, Tom was drafted in the U.S. Army. After basic training, he took courses in purchasing and was sent to Vietnam in May of 1968 as part of the First Cavalry Unit. On his first night in Vietnam, at Camp Evans, the camp was attacked for 12 hours by the People's Army of Vietnam. During one of the blasts, Tom was thrown against a bunker wall, and suffered a traumatic brain injury followed by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that plagued him the rest of his life.
When Tom's 50th class reunion celebration was being planned, a former classmate named Barbara reached out to him to see if he could attend. After much correspondence, they forged a very special friendship. His relationship with Barbara was a very important part of his life, and their friendship endured until his death.
Tom had another former friend from high school named Larry who would visit him frequently at King. They enjoyed watching Packer's games together.
Tom is survived by Barbara, Larry, and other special friends that he held dear to his heart during the very happy years he spent living at King.
In respect with Tom's wishes, there will be no services. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel with burial of Tom's cremated remains to be held at Evergreen Cemetery alongside his parents.
