Viola R. Vogel, age 97, entered Eternal Life on May 19, 2026, at Shady Lane Nursing Home in Manitowoc. She was born on August 30, 1928, to the late John and Elizabeth (Sauer) Kopidlansky. Viola attended East DePere High School and graduated with the Class of 1946. After high school, she was employed with Mirro Aluminum, and then later on worked as a residential home cleaner. On July 28, 1951, Viola married Joseph M. Vogel in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on January 20, 1990.Viola was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, and was involved with the Christian Women and Daughters of Isabella there.
Viola loved playing card games -- especially sheepshead, as well as bingo and spinner dominoes. She enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers. Her favorite Brewers were Joshy Hader and Christian Yelich. Viola’s favorite pastimes were vegetable gardening, watching her sons playing sports, and listening and dancing to polkas. She was known for her sweet tooth, especially Peeps and knee caps.
Viola is survived by her children Dennis (Cindy) Vogel of Manitowoc, Kathleen (Alexander) Martyna of Oshkosh, John (Barbara) Vogel of Manitowoc, Karen Fictum of Manitowoc, and Scott (Natasha) Vogel of Allenton; grandchildren Dennis Jr., Aaron, Bradley, Heather, Derek, Elizabeth, Joe, Samantha, Nick, Ally, and Jordyn; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Delores Burich and Judy Vogel; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law Steve Fictum, grandson Christopher Vogel, and sister Marie (Charles) Lorrigan.
Visitation will be held at St. Francis of Assisi of Waldo, 1121 N. 14th St., Manitowoc, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be at 12 noon, officiated by Rev. Doug LeCaptain. Luncheon to follow Mass at Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 N. Water St. A private entombment will be held at Knollwood Mausoleum.
