Virgil "Skip" Skrepenski, age 88, a resident of Manitowoc Rapids, entered eternal life on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers.
Virgil was born on August 11, 1928 in Manitowoc to late Frank and Mary Schaeffer Skrepensky. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in the Korean War until his honorable discharge in October of 1951. On November 29, 1952, Virgil married Cecelia Hettmann at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Manitowoc. He had been employed at Aluminum Specialty until his retirement in 1990. Virgil enjoyed spending his time gardening, having a few drinks with a cigar, going to casinos, playing cards, and above all cherished the time he was able to spend with his family. He was a member of AMVETS Post 99 and St. Francis of Assisi Parish.
Survivors include Virgil's wife of 64 years: Celia; five children: Anthony (Sandra) Skrepenski, Sheboygan; Patricia (Edwin) Free, Whitelaw; Ann Skrepenski, Manitowoc; Mark Skrepenski and his special friend Heather Laurin, Manitowoc; and Kristy (Robert) Bubolz, Manitowoc; nine grandchildren: Nicholas, Kenneth, Teresa, Kelly, Jennifer, Staci, Steven, Talon, and Koen; step-granddaughter: Pamela; 10 great grandchildren; 4 step-great grandchildren; sister: Diane (George) Compton, Maribel; also other relatives and friends. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Mary Skrepensky; son: Kenneth Skrepenski; two brothers: Marvin and Thomas Skrepensky; and three sisters: Joyce Tennant, Marjorie Weinberger and Mary Jane Skrepensky.
Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2016 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Deacon Alan Boeldt will officiate with burial of Virgil's cremated remains to take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Manitowoc at a later date. Following the memorial service, military rites will be accorded by AMVETS Post 99 at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel.
