On Monday, August 28th, William (Bill) Daniel Eis, age 61 and rural Two Rivers resident, lost his year-long and incredibly brave fight with cancer. When asked how he wanted to be remembered, he said "I loved all in my life, I have had nothing but respect and love for all, I have never had ill feelings toward anyone nor harbored anger to anyone." Those with the good fortune to know Bill as a family member or friend know the trueness of his words. He died at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay as he wished, surrounded by his beloved family.
Bill was born on January 22, 1956 in Manitowoc. He was the son of Carol (nee Demler) and Daniel Eis. Bill was a graduate of Lincoln High School with the class of 1975. He joined the United States Air Force in July 1975, achieved the rank of sergeant, and was honorably discharged in 1979. Senior Airman Eis received the Meritorious Service Medal, which is a rarely given medal, for outstanding achievement while assigned to a humanitarian mission special task force at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware from November 21 through December 15 in 1978. Bill then returned to Manitowoc and was employed with Manitowoc Ice where he enjoyed his work and coworkers for 37 years before retiring in January 2017. On August 21, 1982 he married Mary Jo Mailand at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Manitowoc. The Boy Scouts of America played a significant role in Bill's life, including his participation as a scout (Order of the Arrow, Bay-Lakes Council), counselor at Camp Sinawa, and Scout Master of Troup #932 in Manitowoc. He served as Vice President and President of the Newton Sno-Sports Snowmobile Club, was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and season ticket holder, enjoyed the outdoors, boating, water skiing, and hunting and snowmobiling with his family and friends. He was a good-hearted practical joker and loved to make people laugh. Bill was a lifelong learner, especially of the sciences and US war history, enjoyed keeping up to date and discussing worldwide current events, and shooting the bull at the Eis deer camp.
