Obituary

Zinaida Petrovna Swerchowsky, 97, of the Town of Franklin, Kewaunee County, (formerly of Rocky River, Ohio) entered peacefully into eternal rest Thursday, October 23, 2014.

She was born in Varva, Ukraine and considered it her good fortune to have made her way to freedom in America in 1951. She was a geologist, needlepoint artist, animal lover, devoted Mother, Babushka, Great Babushka, superb cook and meticulous gardener, who challenged any weed to invade her territory, well into her 97th year.

Zinaida was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Nikolai, who died in 2005. Her parents, Pyotr Shaparenko and Maria Shalia, one brother and four sisters also predeceased her in Ukraine. She is survived by her son, Dr. Vladimir Swerchowsky (Maryann Liguore), four grandchildren, Maria Swerchowsky (Bob Skulina), Natalia Egan (Sean), Dr. Nicholas Swerchowsky and Vlad Swerchowsky. She is further survived by her great granddaughter, Genevieve Skulina.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 26th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, WI 54220. Funeral Services and Burial will be private. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.harriganparksidefuneralhome.com
