A family tradition……for 3 generations and over 70 years, one family dedicated to serving others.
In 1940, Truman Harrigan and his wife Eurania established the Harrigan Furniture and Funeral Home in Weyauwega, Wisconsin. Living above the funeral home with 3 children, everyone had involvement as they became old enough to help by washing vehicles, doing yard work, vacuuming and so on. Eventually the two brothers, Roger and Dennis began helping on visitations and services and obtained their education in funeral service and became licensed, Roger in 1972 and Dennis in 1974. In 1979 the two brothers purchased the Parkside Funeral Home (formerly the Mittnacht Funeral Home established by Cyril Mittnacht in 1947) in Manitowoc in conjunction with operating the family funeral home in Weyauwega which later was sold in 1985. In the past 31 years of business in Manitowoc, many improvements have been made to this 112 year old historic mansion built by John and Rose Schuette in 1898. In 1976 the south wing was added to the existing building, in 2001 the adjoining south property at 620 North Water Street was purchased for additional parking and building renovation, in 2003 all 4 levels of the funeral home were completely refurbished and redecorated, in 2007 the next adjoining south property at 612 North Water Street was purchased with the building removed and a complete new structure was built which now is the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel with our onsite crematory and additional parking making room available for 80 vehicles. The best part of our growth has been giving back to our community to provide families with one of the finest funeral homes and crematory in the state.
In October 2000, Dennis’ son Andrew, became licensed in funeral service and joined the family business bringing it now into the third generation. This brings a feeling a confidence for many families in knowing that in prearranging their services that someone from the Harrigan family will be honoring these prearranged funeral plans that they have established.
For over 70 years, whether it was the late Truman Harrigan, Roger, Dennis or Andrew, one of the Harrigan’s have met with every family that has called on them in making the funeral arrangements, and being present at every visitation and every funeral service. A long history of personalized service and family dedication…….from our family to yours.
